Why we need names

For most people, a nationality can be taken for granted. But some people in poor countries can only dream of owning a passport, some of even having an official name.

A name and nationality come with many advantages, such as the ability to travel and access social services.

It is not rare for kids in conflict regions to lose their parents due to things like moving to another country or political conflict. Without a passport, ID card or even a name, the police can't help these lost kids.

No specific number states officially how many people have no identity papers.
